Files, terminal, and version control
Besides the conversation, Studio has three tools to work directly in the folder. They open in the conversation’s side panel, as tabs, or from the project menu (Open Files, Open Terminal).
Files shows the working folder’s tree. Use Filter files… to find items by name.
In each item’s menu: Open file, Reference in chat (points the conversation to the file), New file, New folder, cut, copy, and paste, Copy path, Rename, and Delete.
- Delete moves items to the system trash; it does not erase them for good.
- When pasting files with the same name, nothing is replaced without your choice: for each conflict, choose Replace, Keep both, or Skip.
- Text files open in an editor with Edit, Preview, and Save. If the file changes outside Studio while you edit, choose Reload (reads the version on disk) or Overwrite (writes your draft over it).
- Binary files open in the computer’s default app.
Documents, spreadsheets, and presentations open in their own editors. See Documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
A Shared folder with your company shows the sync state and whether you can edit or only view. See Settings.
Terminal
Section titled “Terminal”Terminal opens a command line in the conversation’s folder, inside Studio. If the folder no longer exists on the computer, the terminal does not open.
Version control
Section titled “Version control”Version control shows the folder’s Git state: the current branch, whether it is ahead of or behind the remote, modified, staged, and untracked files, and the Commits history. To compare, use Compare with and choose another branch.
To record the work, tap Ask for a commit: Studio commits what is in the folder with a message describing the work.
If the folder is not a Git repository, or Git is not installed on the computer, the tab explains that instead of showing the history.
